theme descriptions

We resisted the idea of a single collection, and we avoided sorting photographs by subject alone.

What matters is not the content of an image, but the message it carries. We placed each photograph where it felt most true to us.

But it may land somewhere else for you – that's what we're hoping will happen.
That’s what art is about.

Each photo has a voice, and together they shaped these nine themes. If you’re curious what they mean to us, read on — or jump back into the Gallery anytime.

chaos & order Pattern: Perceived disorder or structure. Photographs that examine randomness and arrangement—images of apparent chaos, deliberate order, or moments where one transforms into the other.
connections Relationship: Relationships, linkage, interaction. Photographs that examine the ties between people, places, objects, or moments—shown through physical links, shared actions, or visual bonds that convey a sense of connection or continuity.
constructed Design: Human-made intention. Photographs of human-made objects, structures, and environments, where design, purpose, and function shape the subject.
division & unity Boundary: Separation / joining of space, direction, or form. Photographs that consider division and togetherness—elements that divide or oppose, and those that join or align, including moments where one becomes the other.
formations Process: Natural process over time. Photographs of organic forms shaped by time and forces—growth, erosion, weather, and change—without human intervention.
light & shadows Form: Light as artist. Photographs where light acts as the creator and shadows become the art, shaping form, space, and visual weight.
remnants Trace: Decayed, lost, discarded. Photographs of what remains after use, presence, or belonging—worn surfaces, abandoned objects, and people left on the margins, where time, absence, and trace define the image.
solitude Aloneness: Spatial or conceptual aloneness. Photographs that emphasize isolation or stillness—where a single presence is defined by space, quiet, or seclusion.
soul Presence: Inner life / emotional presence. Photographs that convey spirit and depth—moments shaped by feeling, awareness, or humanity rather than action or event alone.
